What we do

Spares, maintenance and engineering to keep critical utility comms running

DTC keeps networks supplied, supported and sustainable across their whole life. For almost 30 years we’ve sourced telecoms hardware, repaired and recovered it, and kept ageing networks running, backed by one of the largest independent secondary markets in the industry.

Utility networks have unusually long lives and can’t simply be ripped out and replaced. So we focus on keeping them going: hard-to-find spares, component-level repair, ongoing maintenance for kit the OEM no longer supports, and engineering on the ground at your sites.

Sourcing spares the OEM no longer manufactures

Utility assets routinely outlive the vendors that built them. When a part is discontinued and the OEM has nothing left to sell, the asset still might have years of regulated life to run. We track those parts down through one of the largest independent secondary markets and a broker network of thousands of suppliers, so obsolescence doesn’t force an early, expensive replacement.

  • Telemetry and teleprotection – the comms behind the grid, not just IT
  • Held-stock agreements – critical spares reserved for you, ready before a fault
  • Multi-vendor sourcing – one search across thousands of suppliers

Repairs and spares that avoid downtime

You cannot take a live grid, water or gas network offline to swap equipment, and any fault has to be fixed fast. We repair failed kit down to component level, hold spares ready for a quick swap, and keep end-of-life equipment maintained, so you restore service quickly rather than risk a bigger outage by replacing it.

  • Tested and warrantied returns – repaired kit comes back proven, not patched
  • Hot spares on the shelf – swap first, repair the fault afterwards
  • Priority turnaround – faults on a live network jump the queue

Extending asset life under regulated budgets

Under price controls like RIIO and Ofwat’s reviews, every pound of replacement spend is scrutinised. Refurbished supply, repair and the value we recover from retired kit extend asset life and lower whole-life cost, making a defensible case for sweating an asset rather than replacing it early.

  • Totex-friendly spend – repair and refurb count differently to wholesale replacement
  • A documented audit trail – evidence to justify spend at price-control reviews
  • Buy-back on retired assets – recovered value offsets the next investment

Why choose DTC?

Why partner with DTC?

Built for networks that run for decades

Utility kit stays in service far longer than most other networks. We are set up to support it for the long haul, not just its first few years.

One partner from spares to retirement

Sourcing, repair, maintenance and recovery from a single place, instead of chasing several suppliers for ageing kit. We have access to one of the largest independent secondary markets for telecom parts in the world.

Secure and accredited for critical infrastructure

ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001, WEEE-compliant recycling and certificated data destruction, with a UK base and a full audit trail.

30+ years keeping critical networks running

Almost three decades of practical telecoms experience behind every part we supply and every job we do.

More on how we help utilities networks

Telecoms support for electricity, water, oil and gas and renewables networks

Utility networks are built to last, and the telecoms that monitor and control them have to last with them. Long after the OEM has moved on, that kit still has to run reliably, securely and within budget. That is the gap DTC fills.

What we support across utility networks

  • Telemetry and teleprotection comms
  • Routing, switching and multiplexer transport between sites and control rooms
  • Legacy and obsolete spares the OEM no longer makes
  • Component-level repair of failed kit, including end-of-life platforms
  • Decommissioning, secure data destruction and value recovery at end of life

Networks that have to last decades

Where most networks refresh every few years, utility infrastructure can run for fifteen, twenty or more. OEM support ends long before the asset does, and rip-and-replace is rarely an option on live critical systems, so we keep your network running with spares, repair and maintenance.

Sourcing legacy and obsolete equipment

Our depth in the secondary market means we can find parts for kit the manufacturer stopped producing years ago – the single biggest headache for utility telecoms teams.

Across electricity, water, oil and gas

We support distribution network operators (DNOs) and transmission, water utilities and gas networks, across the telecoms and OT estate that carries telemetry, teleprotection and control traffic between sites and control rooms.

Secure and accredited for critical national infrastructure

Critical infrastructure carries a higher bar. We operate under BSI ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001, recycle to WEEE and zero-to-landfill standards, and securely destroy data with a certificate for every asset, all with a UK base and a full audit trail.

Repair that keeps a live network up

You cannot take a grid, water or gas network offline to swap equipment, so a fault has to be fixed fast and safely. We hold spares ready for a quick swap, repair failed kit down to component level, and prioritise faults on live critical systems, so you restore service quickly rather than risk a wider outage.

Regulated budgets: RIIO, Ofwat and totex

Under price controls like RIIO and Ofwat’s reviews, every pound of replacement spend is scrutinised, and the OEM’s answer is always to buy new. Refurbished supply, repair and recovered value extend asset life and lower whole-life cost, and they sit differently to wholesale replacement in a totex case, with a documented audit trail to justify the spend at review.

Lower total cost of ownership

Extending asset life with spares and repair, and recovering value at end of life, lowers the whole-life cost of the network well beyond the saving on any single part.

Industries we serve

Types of utilities networks we serve

We've worked with utilities networks for almost 30 years, across electricity, water and gas. These networks have to run for decades on kit the OEM dropped long ago, and keeping them going is exactly what we're set up to do.

Rail

Spares and replacements for trackside, signalling, station and depot equipment

Electricity transmission

Long-life spares and repair for the teleprotection and transport your grid relies upon.

Water utilities

Spares, repair and support for the telemetry and control links across your sites and treatment works.

Oil and gas networks

We keep the monitoring and control comms on your oil and gas networks supported, long after the OEM has stopped.

Multi-utility and energy operators

One supplier for the telecoms behind whichever networks you run.

Renewables and battery storage

Spares, repair and support for the comms and telemetry behind wind, solar and battery-storage sites, often remote and built to run for years.

Utilities FAQs

Utilities: frequently asked questions

Can you source obsolete or end-of-life spares?

Yes, finding parts the OEM no longer makes is one of the main things we do for utilities.

Do you repair as well as supply?

Both, component-level repair including platforms past OEM support.

Do you support electricity, water and gas networks?

Yes, across the telecoms and OT estate for DNOs, transmission, water and gas operators.

Is your handling secure and accredited?

Yes, ISO 9001/14001/45001, WEEE recycling, certificated data destruction, UK-based with a full audit trail.

Does this fit regulated budgets like RIIO and Ofwat?

Yes, repair and refurbished supply extend asset life and lower whole-life cost, with a documented audit trail.
